Tennessee Hires New Athletic Director

Did they do it? Did Tennessee make a good hire? It seems to me they did. On Thursday, January 21st, 2021, the Vols hired Danny White as the new athletic director from UCF. White is known as one of the best AD’s in the business and has made some terrific hires in his career. In his first athletics director job at Buffalo he made what was considered a bold hire when he hired Lance Leipold from a Division III school. Lance built one of the top programs in the Mid- America Conference. White also hired Bobby Hurley and Nate Oats who both went onto do big things in College Basketball, Oats is currently the head coach at Alabama. White took over UCF in 2015 and quickly hired Scott Frost and after a couple years, UCF was atop the league and made back to back New Years Six bowls. White has long been outspoken on Social Media against members of the media, and even other athletic directors about expanding the college playoff. White signed a five year deal in March that paid him over 1 million dollars with a 2.5 million dollar buyout if he were to leave before May 202, so it seems Tennessee isn’t afraid to open the check book this go around. Expect Tennessee to make an official announcement sometime later Thursday.
