Takeaways from Tennessee’s Victory Against the Spartans

HO HO HO, Merry Christmas Vol fans! The Tennessee Vols beat SC Upstate 80-60 on the night before Christmas eve, it wasn’t always pretty, but they got the job done. Now onto my three main reactions from the night.

DEFENSE- The Vols defense once again came to play with 7 blocks and 9 steals. The Vols made it rough for the Spartans to score even though they did shoot 9-18 from three, that was almost all they were able to do. After some adjustments the Vols quit giving that shot up and that was when the lead lengthened.

VICTOR BAILEY- The hype for Victor Bailey in the off season was warranted. He finished with 18 points on 8-12 from the field and 2-4 from three, he also showed some jaw dropping athleticism on a couple of fast break drives.

CALL HIM MAGIC- Josiah James will record a triple double before his time at Tennessee is up, I'd be willing to bet that. Josiah finished with 11 points on 3-5 shooting, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. He also had 3 steals and a block. Have yourself a game, Josiah.

Like I said earlier, it wasn’t always pretty. The Vols only led by 7 at the half, but in the second half they put the hard hat on and finished with a 20 point lead. Kudos to the Spartans on a hard fought game. The Vols will have their first ranked test on December 30th as they travel to Columbia, MIssouri to take on the 14th ranked Tigers of Missouri. That game is currently set to tip at 9 pm and will air on the SEC Network.
