The recruiting trail is really heating up for the 2021 class and a lot of names are being thrown around for the Tennessee Volunteers. One name that is gaining a lot of traction is 7’1 Ryan Mutombo. Yes, before you ask, he is the son of the great center, Dikembe Mutombo. According to 247sports Mutombo is 79th ranked player nationally and 3rd ranked player in Georgia. For a very long time it has felt like Mutombo was a Georgetown lock, but recently the Vols have zeroed their attention on Mutombo. With the recent commit of 5-star Kennedy Chandler, the Vols have a lot to offer Mutombo when it comes to getting the ball. I mean, why wouldn’t you want to play with a potential lottery draft pick? Also, John Fulkerson and Yves Pons graduate this upcoming season so the playing time would be for the taking. Mutombo‘s game is much like his fathers, true low post center. His ability to block shots is easy - being a 7 footer and all- but he has unbelievable vision passing out of the post. Mutombo is very comparable to Kyle Alexander who is currently in the NBA with the Miami Heat, they both are 7+ foot and they effect every shot around the basket. Rumors are flying around of Brandon Huntley-Hatfield possibly reclassifying to the 2021 class and if committed to the Vols then you could see a really dangerous squad next season (especially if Mutombo decided to follow suit). I’m predicting that Ryan Mutombo will be wearing the orange and white next season!
