Preview: Vols Tight Ends

The TE hasn’t been used as much as we’ve hoped in the Vols offense lately, but hopefully, that changes this year. Let’s take a look at who the Vols have at TE:
Redshirt senior: Austin Pope

One of the tougher players on the team, Pope is a very good run-blocker. He also totaled four receptions for 21 yards. Hopefully, Pope gets more of a chance to show what he can do with the ball in his hands this coming year.
Redshirt freshman: Jackson Lowe

Jackson was a 4-star recruit out of high school, so we know the Vols are getting a very talented player. Built to make plays down the field at 6’5” 240 lbs, Lowe should be getting a chance to play.
The Vols tight end position isn’t as loaded as their other positions, so potentially they could move some other players to tight end before the season starts. Here’s the top candidate:
Redshirt junior: Princeton Fant

Fant appeared in eight games as a reserve tight end, including the Gator Bowl where he finished with two receptions for 19 yards. He made his first career reception against Chattanooga for 19 yards.
Other potential TE’s: Jordan Allen, Sean Brown, Jacob Warren, Hunter Salmon.
