Last week, the SEC announced the finalized schedule for all SEC teams. At first, it seemed Tennessee got the short end of the stick when it came to the extra two opponents, but after thinking it over, I feel like the SEC threw the Volunteers a bone. I want to focus on one of the most interesting matchups...Vols vs Texas A&M. As many Vol fans remember, the last time this game was on, it ended in a double OT loss. Since the last matchup, both teams are under new coaching staff; Texas A&M hired HC Jimbo Fisher and Tennessee now has Jermey Pruitt. ( And for you history buffs, Fisher gave Pruitt the DC position at Florida State.)
Both teams will have senior quarterbacks, Texas A&M will start Kellen Mond and Tennessee will more than likely have Jarrett Guarantano. Interesting enough, both quarterbacks have vastly underachieved in their career and both have something to prove this upcoming season. Texas A&M has been a sleeper pick for a lot media outlets to potentially win the SEC West, but let’s be real, they’re vastly overrated. Tennessee will play the Aggie’s after they visit Arkansas and honestly the Vols should be rested after playing the Razorbacks... so advantage? Tennessee. Texas A&M will be coming off a game against South Carolina and hopefully the Gamecocks laying it to the Aggies keeping them overworked. This also could be potential Top 15 matchup which would have the whole country watching. It’s hard to make a prediction who will win this game, considering they’re so similar in talent. I think Tennessee will have the advantage in two positions that A&M can‘t, running the ball and the linebackers! This will be a very important matchup with a lot on the line. If Pruitt can sneak out the win in Neyland, he can add another W against SEC West opponents.
