It’s that time again when we express our hate for Memphis. Let me just say as much as Penny Hardaway is a cry baby, cheater, and sore loser he’s been great for our rival Memphis, but that’s all the credit he gets from me.
On Saturday December 14th at 3:00 PM the Tennessee Volunteers will host little brother Memphis Tigers, a top 20 matchup. What should you be watching for? Penny crying to see UT ball up their fist again (just kidding). However, take note that the expected big matchup we thought would happen isn’t there because of freshman forward James Wiseman’s 12-game suspension (in addition to his $11,500 fine for taking personal money from Coach Hardaway).
Can the Vols get any considerable scoring from players other than Turner and Bowden? We may see a decent show-out from Yves Pons or John Fulkerson in the Memphis game. Pons has shown flashes of being able to score 15 points a game and Fulkerson played big against the Washington Huskies—helping the team secure a 75 - 62 win. On the other hand, hopefully, Josiah-Jordan James can score more than 10 points to help the team out a little bit. Keep in mind, he’s still coming back from a hip injury in the off season, which has threw his timing off throughout the early season.
This game is going to be a fight. Memphis has the revenge factor coming into a sold-out Thompson-Boling Arena, but with Wiseman and Ellis, I believe the Vols have the upper hand. We all know though, in a rival game, anything can happen! It’s possible both teams LITERALLY fist-fight each other at some point before, during, and after the game.
Prediction: Vols 69 - Tigers 61
