Grab Your Bowling Shoes, Vols!
For the first time since 2016, the Tennessee Volunteers are going bowling after defeating the Missouri Tigers Saturday night 24-20. After a 1-4 record to start the season, there seemed to be no light shining at the end of the tunnel. Now the Volunteers rally 5 out of 6 six games, are bowl eligible, and may possibly win 7 regular season games with in-state rival Vanderbilt at Neyland stadium (4:00 PM EST - SEC Network).
Many ask, “what has changed in this team?” Well I think 3 things have really changed since the start of the season.
1. Jarrett Guarantano: after many wrote him off (including me) the man straight-out balled out. Not only did he have a season high on Saturday of 415 yards passing, but he’s become a leader of the team (FINALLY) like we excepted at the beginning of the season. The team has railed behind JG and he’s bought into Jim Chaney’s offense. 2. Defense: at the start of the season this defense couldn’t even get the right amount of defenders on the field. The growth they’ve showed from then is amazing. From the true freshman Henry To’oTo’o looking like all SEC Freshman of the Year to Nigel Warrior showing fans that he is the safety he was recruited to be 4 years ago. Plus, Daniel Bituli showing us he’s an elite LB talent. This defense has stopped the run and took away so many team’s strength after buying into JP’s system.
3. Juan Jennings: one word to describe this man is—DAWG! When all hope was lost on offense and we needed a big play, who did we turn to? Juan Jennings. Juan loves the state of Tennessee, he loves the university, and especially loves his team. He’s been the leader this team has needed and he stepped up when nobody would step up to be a leader. Juan only needs 114 yards to join the 1,000 yard club Saturday! Fingers crossed he joins that elite club.
None of us dreamed this would be the end result of the Vols football year, but we all should be more thankful and grateful for the job Jermey Pruitt and the staff has done with this team. This team has a legit chance of winning 8 games and they’ve locked 3rd place in the SEC East only after Pruitt’s second year. This is the jump we excepted the team to make! All that’s left is stomping Vandy into the ground Saturday and hopefully advancing to a great bowl game! Go Vols!
