Former Kentucky & Louisville Coach Rick Pitino Is Returning to College Basketball

Per CBS Sports' Matt Norlander, Pitino informed Panathinaikos players he is returning to college basketball when informing them of his decision to leave Greece.

Although it is not official where, most places are reporting that Pitino will be taking the job at the University of Iona.

Coach Pitino last coached in college with the university of Louisville where he was the coach from 2001–2017. He was fired due to multiple allegations of NCAA violations. Since his departure he has coached in Greece. Coach Pitino was mostly know for his time at Kentucky and Louisville but also had stents at Providence and in the NBA with the Boston Celtics.

Coach Pitino had been mentioned in various coaching carousels including Grand Canyon, UNLV, and even UCLA. Most places let the multiple NCAA violations keep them away. Although Coach Pitino is hall of coach he has been involved in multiple scandals.

I personally believe he will flourish at this level. He has won a single NCAA championship in 1996. IONA is getting a high level coach at low level school.
