Can the Vols Actually Contend for the SEC Title?

Before the 2019-2020 college basketball season had even began, many fans were already skeptical of Rick Barnes and what he could accomplish for UT basketball. With 4 out of 5 starters going pro after last season, I think it’s safe to say low post presence will be an issue. We also know that the Vols had a guard trio that shined as one of the best in the nation. After a perfect 3-0 start (including a victory over #20 ranked Washington Huskies) the question is, can this team really compete for another SEC title?
So far in the 19’-20’ season, SEC BBall teams Florida, LSU, and Kentucky have all been faced with significant problems—especially #1 ranked UK and their unbelievable upset to Evansville. This plus UT’s 3-0 record puts the Vols in a comfortable situation to be ranked one of the top 25 teams in the nation and compete with the best of the SEC.
However, in order for UT to accomplish a top 25 spot plus getting a chance at another SEC title, Turner and Bowden have to consistently perform every night in Coach Barnes 6-man rotation. Also, Yves Pons has to continue to contribute like he has the first 3 games; averaging 15.5 points a game and 4 blocks. Josiah James seems to be more comfortable in the offense which means (if he continues to play like the 5 star player he is) this team could be extremely dangerous. We all know March is typically won by guards.
This Vols season should be fun! Vol nation should continue getting behind this team. It’ll be interesting to see these guys grow into a powerful Rick Barnes team. Go Vols!
